The calendula flower contains a variety of compounds which are believed to support wound healing. Calendula is thought to be anti-inflammatory and is also thought to constrict blood vessels to stop bleeding and is also said to be anti-bacterial. Calendula was used during the American Civil War on wounds to draw out infections.
